This is my thesis film in Chapman University. The story is about a Chinese illegal immigrant loses his job as a cook because of Covid-19. We are looking for a Naturalistic look for this film. Lighting wise, I am trying to avoid the traditional, dramatic way of lighting. On the contrary, I care more about the mental status of the protagonist. When the character experiences his lowest of life, I underexposed three stops for the exposure. Additionally, the color temperature plays an important role in this film. The whole film shifted from warm tone to cool tone, indicating the change of situation. Color wise, <Shoplifters> in 2018 is our reference for color grading. We loved the yellow-greenish look and wish to approach it in our film.
